After in disguise for almost 2 yrs from community work, now I am feeling as if I am in heaven. It’s already one and half a month I had joined my dream job at Avanti Fellows. Akshay and Krishna thanks for giving me this opportunity.
While moving in the streets of villages and semi-urban areas as I used to in the past gives me life, listening to the problems of their households many of that kind which I can never think of solving them as a human makes me sad. But having something in hand to offer to one of their kids, who really deserves it gives some pleasure as a whole.
Starting my journey by metro and then catching a rickshaw to search for an address in junta houses of Delhi and finally finding it senses as if I found a treasury. During home interview while student was busy at the small concept oriented test I asked him to appear, his father was excited to show me all his certificates varying from participation in cultural activities in school to Science oriented tests in state level. Having small income from machinery shop didn’t discourage him to provide the best study environment for kids. Other two home interviews followed by the one at Avantika had gone in similar way.
When I reached house of the fourth student, I was shocked to see a big three floor bungalow in front of me with the text ‘Dabas House’. Then the student took me to second floor and offered me a seat in the hall. Coming out of the shock I started watching the infrastructure which I felt too old and seemed out of place for that size of the building. While the student was busy with the test I had given, I started interacting with his mom, slowly getting an idea about the bungalow and their past glory. An accident happened 15yrs back making his father go into coma for years together shaped the family way of living. Being in so much tension his mother never neglected children’s education. While leaving the house I am convinced totally why he had approached us.
Then came to the last student who with an aim of becoming a scientist in defense, kept nothing but only studies in his day to day time table. Already completed studying some subjects of eleventh standard for which he will be going to school in July, being constant topper in school is a real hard worker making his parents who are daily wagers happy.
After the home interviews getting sleep that night is real big task for me. Unless I come to a convincing conclusion that whom we will be not selecting it’s difficult to get peace in my head. This was the same scenario whether it’s Roorkee or Delhi or I hope in other cities where we are having operations.
